X100 vs X10 (DOF and ISO)

I have been asked to do some test pics between my Fuji X100 and X10.

Being a little time restricted, I quickly took these pics to show the difference of DOF between the two at the same focal length and aperture (2.8).

The top pic is from the X100, bottom being from the X10. It is clear how much the size of the sensor impacts on DOF in these examples.

I then took the following pic of a messy table at ISO 800.

Now, here is the crop of the mug showing the ISO difference between the two:

Top is the X100 and the bottom is the X10.

Now, in comparison to the X100, the X10 does not look like is performs that well. However this is by far a fair comparison considering the quality of the X100. Maybe if we test the X10 against other compacts, we would see where the X10 really shines. I doubt you would see that ISO performance coming from a Canon or Sony point and shoot.

  1. I have the X100 and love it. Have been itching to get the X10 too. I have a Canon G10 but never use it... The X10 is a camera I'll bring everywhere. While its not X100 quality, I get that, is it your opinion that it is indeed better than most other cameras in its class?

  2. I agree with you John. The flexibility of the zoom while delivering results that I do not expect from a compact makes it the ideal "carry around" camera. At the moment I am fixated on street photography which is where I believe the x100 really shines. The x10 was actually purchased for my wife to take photos of the kids etc. I will probably alternate mainly between the x100 and my dslr.
